# 3.9 Realm Settings

What is a Realm in Ztrust ?

* A realm in Ztrust is essentially a space where we manage a set of users, roles, groups, and clients.
* Each realm is isolated and manages its own users and configurations.
* Realms allow us to separate different environments or applications within a single Ztrust instance.

**The Master Realm:**

* When we install and run Ztrust for the first time, there is a default realm called "master".
* The master realm is special because it is used for administration and managing all other realms.
* It contains the initial admin user who has permissions to create and manage other realms and users.
